I am a professional medical editor and writer with more than 20 years of experience. Do you prepare evidence-based scientific publications? Do you have content experts but need a publications expert? That’s where I can help. I’ll help you communicate your science well.
I’ll bring clarity and focus to your writing. I’ll help you ensure that your publication—from a journal article to a grant application to an outpatient dialysis services policies and procedures manual—has a consistent voice and style. I’m an expert in AMA style, but I can apply your organization’s preferred style.
I am a certified scientific editor. The ELS after my name stands for Editor in the Life Sciences, a certification of BELS. I’m always working to improve my skills. My continuing education in scientific publishing has included short courses offered by the Council of Science Editors, workshops offered through the American Medical Writers Association, and numerous webinars through editing associations like ACES.
I have a BS degree in animal science and a minor in technical writing and editing. I also spent 3 years in graduate school in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. I'm not just a language expert who edits in the science field or a scientist who has picked up editing. I'm a highly trained editor with an advanced science background.
I started my editing career at the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, where I copyedited accepted manuscripts and corrected proofs before publication. I co-wrote the journal's style guide and trained new copyeditors. I also gained experience working with authors for whom English is a second language.
I have been working full-time as a freelance medical editor and writer since 2003. I am a proud member of AMWA.
My mission statement is to communicate science well - for healthy people and a healthy planet.
